Issue 2: Band Leader Meetings: Why They're So Important
As you plan the big day, one of the most important things to decide on is the music. You’ve done your due diligence. You’ve talked with agencies and independent bands and DJ’s, and you’ve decided a band is what you want. You’ve even narrowed down the band to a couple of choices. But you're having trouble deciding. . .
Which band should we pick?
It’s such an important decision, as the band will ultimately keep the party rocking….
Or empty the floor faster than you can say “Who let the dogs out?” Not every band is the right fit for every party, so it’s important to pick the one that best fits you and the type of crowd in attendance.
It's also important to know many agencies won’t let you talk to the band leader in advance. They'll cite "confidentiality" or give false assurances that they have a "whole team" dedicated to preparing you and the band for your wedding. Some agencies will allow a phone call a week or so prior to your wedding day. Either way, at best your band leader is getting to know you a week before your wedding or at worst, the day of.
If an agency won’t let you coordinate with your band leader several months in advance to set a playlist and allow the band to learn any new material, what does that mean for you? How do you know you're even getting what you paid for?
Imagine picking a wedding dress, but not trying it on until the big day… Meeting with the band leader is like trying on your dress, and keeping in touch throughout planning to make "alterations".
This is why it’s so important to talk to the band leader when booking, and to keep talking to them as everyone prepares for your big day.
During your meetings, you and your experienced band leader will collaborate on the right playlist from your favorite styles and genres to keep the dance floor packed all night long. They'll also know just the right moment to program any slower songs that are really important to you, and then pick it back up to keep the energy going! Professional musicians know how to read the room and adapt to give you & your guests the memorable event you deserve.
